How to Set SMART Marketing Goals in 2023

What was your motivation when you decided to become a real estate agent? Was it the passion for helping people find their dream homes? Was it an opportunity for unlimited income? Or maybe you just wanted to be your own boss and set your schedule?

Regardless of what that motivation was for you - you started running your own business when you became an agent. And if you are ready to level up this year, it’s time to start thinking like the CEO and set your business and marketing goals for 2023.

In this blog, I will walk you through how to set your SMART marketing goals for 2023.

What Are SMART Goals?

Your marketing goals are metrics that drive your marketing efforts. What you would like to do is to set SMART goals:

Specific
What is exactly that you would like to accomplish? Be as clear and specific as possible.

Measurable
How can you measure that the goal is achieved?

Attainable
How easy is it to reach the goal? However, you definitely would like to have it somewhat aspirational, making sure that it is still attainable.

Relevant
Does the goal align with your long-term business objectives?

Timely
What is your timeframe? When would you like the goal to be achieved?

Here is an excellent example of a business SMART goal: Listing and selling 15 homes priced $1M+ by the end of 2023

How to Connect Marketing Goals to Business Goals

Marketing goals go hand in hand with your business goals. For instance, your business goal could be:

  • Closing 15 number sales priced $1M+ by the end of 2023

And your marketing goal that goes with this business goal could be the following:

  • Growing my email list by 2,500 leads by the end of 2023

  • Updating my listing presentation by Jan 31st, 2023

  • Sending out 10 testimonial requests from by Jan 31st, 2023

  • Sending out 2 real estate newsletters per month to my email list

The Framework of Setting Marketing Goals

Follow this framework to create your SMART marketing goals:
By (insert day, month, year), I will reach (insert number) (insert a goal metric).

Here is an example:
By March 31, 2023, I will grow my email list subscribers by 750.

Tools for SMART Goal Setting: Daily, Weekly, Quarterly, and Annually

One of my favorite tools to set SMART goals and keep myself accountable daily is Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt. The planner’s prioritization framework of the tasks moves you closer to achieving those SMART goals daily. And remember - if you don’t write it down, it’s just a dream.

Action Steps:

Take 30 minutes to outline what you want to achieve with your business in 2023. Based on that, take another 30 min to write down your SMART marketing goals. As Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”  Let’s make 2023 the best year yet!
