5 Steps to Setting SMART Marketing Goals in 2021

What was your motivation when you decided to become a real estate agent? Was it the passion for helping people find their dream home? Was it an opportunity for unlimited income? Or maybe you just wanted to be your own boss and set your schedule?

Regardless of what that motivation was for you - you started running your own business when you became an agent. And it’s time to start thinking like a CEO.

Have you set your business and marketing goals for 2021 yet? If not, this is your time. In this article, I will walk you through how to set your SMART marketing goals for 2021.

What Are SMART Marketing Goals?

Your marketing goals are metrics that drive your marketing efforts. What you would like to do is to set SMART goals:

Specific
What is exactly that you would like to accomplish? Be as clear and specific as possible.

Measurable
How can you measure that the goal is achieved?

Attainable
How easy is it to reach the goal? However, you definitely would like to have it somewhat aspirational, making sure that it is still attainable.

Relevant
Does the goal align with your long-term business objectives?

Timely
What is your timeframe? When would you like the goal to be achieved?

An excellent example of a business SMART goal would be: listing and selling 15 homes priced $1M+ by the end of 2021.

How to Connect Marketing Goals to Business Goals

Marketing goals go hand in hand with your business goals. For instance, your business goal could be:

  • Closing X number sales priced $1M+ by the end of 2021

And your marketing goal that goes with this business goal could be the following:

  • Increasing my website traffic by X number by the end of 2021

  • Growing my Instagram following by X number by the end of 2021

  • Growing my email list by X number by the end of 2021

The Framework of Setting Marketing Goals

Follow this framework to create your SMART marketing goals:
By (insert day, month, year), I will reach (insert number) (insert a goal metric).

Here is an example:
By March 31, 2021, I will grow my email list subscribers by 300 monthly.

Now that you know how to set up your goals, take 30 min to outline what you would like to achieve with your business. Based on that, take another 30 min to write down your SMART marketing goals. As Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”  Let’s make 2021 the best year yet!
