5 Steps to Creating an Engaging Social Media Content Plan

Fun Fact! 53% of the world's population is actively using at least one social media platform. Can you think of anyone you know personally, that isn't?

This means that having an effective content plan for your social media accounts is not only beneficial but imperative for the success of your business endeavors in today's digital climate - no pressure.

Okay - so we know that proper marketing on social media is important, but where do we start right?

Well, I've compiled a list of useful tips to aid you in creating an engaging social media content plan.

At best these tips will help boost your online engagement and attract potential new clients and, at worst? Well, it can't hurt to have a plan, right?

  1. Don’t forget the Fundamentals

With how fancy social media marketing can be today, the fundamentals can sometimes be pushed aside to focus on a viral trend or the like.

It’s a good idea to go back to the basics and answer questions like:

  • What service am I providing?

  • Who is my primary audience?

  • What is my appeal?

  • What is my goal?

This will help you identify the pillars of your overarching vision, which will make it easier to form a respective strategy.

2. Speaking of basics, Research!

Do your HW and look into which social media platforms your target audience frequents.

Research what content format performs best on that platform, and this will serve as a base for your social media content strategy.

Using a mix of formats and tracking which posts get the most engagement will help you understand which posts are resonating with your audience.

3. Keep an eye on the Competition

If your contemporaries are as ambitious as you are, then they have probably already tapped into the immense power that is social media.

That’s a good thing!

While it might seem like they have a leg up on you, this allows you to scope out their social media platforms and learn from what they’re doing.

What are they posting? When are they posting?

What's their engagement like?

Answering these questions will help you make an opposing strategy and help you set social media goals.

4. Have a proper Goal for your plan

Your social media plan should be like your marketing treasure map that leads you to your gold – in this case your goal.

If the goal is to have your audience navigate to your website and book an appointment for a home viewing, then you need to tailor your social media platforms, so your audience is compelled to do so.

5. Make a proper schedule and be Consistent

The final, and possibly most crucial tip is... Be consistent. You need to develop a social media posting schedule that covers when to post and how often.

Creating content (having images and accompanying captions ready, having video fully edited) and scheduling when you are going to post it will help you determine your posting frequency.

Allocate time in your schedule dedicated to the social media aspect of your career and stay consistent!

While it might seem daunting, creating a social media plan is not particularly difficult if you take it step by step. Start with the fundamentals and build off the research you have done on your target audience and competition. Starting with these steps and having a clear understanding of your social media goals, coupled with staying consistent with your posting schedule, will lead you to digital success!
