The Version 1 Mindset: Why Imperfect Action Builds the Business You Actually Want

There’s a moment that happens to almost every woman I talk to who’s considering starting her own marketing business.

She doesn’t say, “I’m not good enough.”

She says, “I just want to make sure I get everything right before I put it out there.”

But here’s the truth: Version 1 is never perfect.

It’s not supposed to be.

My Version 1

When I first started my business, I had no intention of becoming an entrepreneur. I was working full-time at a real estate firm—with the title, the salary, and the colleagues who had become family over the past 8 years.

But something in me knew I needed to build something of my own. So I started quietly.

I offered marketing automation support to a life coach launching her first program—something aligned with my real estate marketing background. I built systems, created email sequences, cleaned up workflows. It was deeply unglamorous… and deeply aligned.

I didn’t leave my job overnight.
I started waking up at 5 a.m.—before my daughter, before my now-husband—and chipped away at my plan while the rest of the world was quiet.
I had a name, a logo, a website. But inside?

I was terrified. Terrified to leave the comfort of a corporate role. Terrified to lose a salary I’d worked years to earn. Terrified to let go of the identity I’d built.

So I did what a lot of us do in that in-between space:

I googled. I planned. I overthought. But I also moved.

Little by little, email by email, I built something.

The Twist You Don’t Expect

A year and a half later, I looked up and realized I had recreated the same 9-to-5 culture I’d been trying to escape.

Yes, I was my own boss.

But I was working around the clock for one client, undercharging, and losing the creative freedom I’d been craving from day one.

That was my second Version 1 wake-up call.

I let go of that client—my biggest one—and chose to fully focus on what felt most aligned: real estate marketing.

That’s when everything changed.

The Validation Moment

The first time I made more in one month than I did in my corporate job… I knew this was real.

I wasn’t just freelancing. I wasn’t just experimenting.

I was building a business.

And I was doing it my way.

The Lesson I Want to Leave You With

If you’re sitting in planning mode—waiting for the perfect logo, or the right time, or the “finished” idea—you’re not alone.

But you don’t need to get it all right before you start.

You just need to start.

Version 1 isn’t where your business ends.

It’s where it begins.

And I want to be your guide—to help you figure it out with less stress, more strategy, and more support than I had.
